Happy New Year 2026!

One year has passed, and we welcome the New Year, 2026, with open arms! As usual, I am writing a New Year's article to celebrate this special moment and share my resolutions.

Reflecting on 2025​

Before I start talking about 2026, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year, 2025. Below is the checklist I created at the beginning of 2025 and how I did:

  • 最重要的當然還是脫單啊！連續三年幾個單身狗抱團打遊戲跨年很 sad 耶... → Sadly, still single 😭
  • 真的要看書了啦！一堆書沒看... → I did read some books, though not as many as I wanted. But it still counts!
  • 持續練習英文~ → Yeah, I created a website for practicing TOEFL here! It was also my first time trying "vibe coding."
  • 希望遊戲開發順順利利！(啊...我的 C# 和 Unity 還在新手階段...) → Congratulations! My team and I are still on the right track building our game. At Christmas, we successfully released a simple playable demo!
  • 再做一個 npm 套件 → Not yet... I didn't have much time in 2025.
  • 工程師職等升等！ → I have good news: I got promoted to a higher engineering level at the end of 2025! Now, I'm a Senior Software Engineer!
  • 有時間的話，再參加一次鐵人賽。 → Done! The series of articles can be found here.

Other things I did in 2025​

Because I decided to apply for a Master's degree in Computer Science, I started to prepare for the TOEFL test and the prerequisite courses. So, I went back to university to retake/review Data Structures and OOP.

Plans for 2026​

So, what are my plans for 2026? Here we go:

  1. Still the most important goal: find a girlfriend! 😃
  2. I hope that my team and I can finish our game and launch it on Steam!
  3. Keep practicing English. I will take the TOEFL test in mid-2026; hopefully, I can get a good score (maybe 100?)!
  4. Go back to university and finish all the prerequisite courses for the Master's degree. I plan to start the Algorithm course in the first semester of 2026.
  5. Apply for the Master's degree in Computer Science at the end of 2026, or maybe the beginning of 2027. Below are some of the universities I'm considering:
    • Arizona State University
    • University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
    • Georgia Institute of Technology
